Hey forum members, lets have a little fun.  Lets tell how fast we went on our bikes, whether we used the bike clock or a laser/radar gun to measure the speed, and a few other details like, a description of the bike, and where you were (in general!).

I'll start the party.  I haven't gone that fast compared to some folks, but I did manage 144MPH  on my CBR 600 about 14 years ago.  At that speed I was still barely able to see the tail light of a friend of mines GSXR 1000 as he headed for the horizon.  I imagine my bikes clock was a bit optimistic, but I had never been anywhere near that speed before on a bike, and it was quite addictive!  As the years passed though, I found that traveling at that velocity became very expensive, and curtailed the activity. shog

I got my 78 GS550 up to approx 180 KM/h (approx 110 Mph).
My buddy was following me on his 2000 R6 and he didn't know my old bike would even go that fast...neither did I. We were just on a nice open stretch of road and I opened it up.
The whole time I was thinking..."What if I get a blow out right now", or "what happens if a deer or other wildlife jumps out in front of me?"

~12X mph indicated, which is probably 10 mph optimistic.  Analog gauge hard to safely read at that speed.  Also, it was a naked 650 twin, and there's only so much straightish open road to be found in my area.

Somewhere I have a commendation from a state trooper praising me at 96mph.

I think I once got my '76 CB500T up to ~85mph, indicated.  It took quite a while.  Hunk of junk.

I had my Gold Wing 1500 up to 100, one time and that was fast enough for me.
I am a lot older now and have no desire to go that fast.
I've had this Nighthawk to 85 on the interstate, and see no reason to go any faster.
Call me the Big Old Chicken, but my fast days are over.

GPS max speed window claimed IIRC 483mph a few weeks ago in the city. I'm guessing that was a little off though.

Any monkey straight out of the jungle can be trained to go wide open throttle in a straight line in minutes. Winning a slow race, now there's something to claim. Speedometer needle only slightly came off the stop.

Yea I know I'm boring. Speed has never impressed me...Though I did say "wow" when New Horizons blew past the Moons orbit a mere 9 hours after the hold down clamps let go and again when it shot past Jupiter in 13 months for the gravity assist.

115 on the Nighthawk 550. Plenty of deserted rural roads in Iowa where you can see for miles in all directions.

This is easy for me,many years ago,I was coming back from Brookville,Indiana at about 9 or 10ish,just as you pass the Newcastle exit on 70 west, there is a very small valley of sorts,I could see all the way down and up the other side,no traffic at this time,I thought to myself,Jim this is a dumb idea, but as I said it was a long time ago,And not nearly as wise as I am today. So I had a 1996 kawasaki zx9r,about 3,000 miles on her, nice carbon fiber d&d exhaust, jetted geared and ready to go,so I dropped a couple of gears, cracked the throttle and away I went,I continued up thru the gears, the bike screaming under me,I tucked up under what little windshield there was on the bike, the force of the wind, the sight of all the trees, flying by,the roar of the engine was amazing,I got 175 mph that night,my speedo went to 200 mph, will it go that fast I dont know, dont want to know,I got home after my dumba** attack, parked the bike, went in the house and told the wife I had to sell it.I never rode that bike again, the guy picked it up a week later, good riddens!!!! I'am 40  gerg and wiser I hope.I have one of these bikes again, but its a lot different now,I have a wife,3 beautiful daughters and an understanding how foolish I was  that was that night. There is my story, thanks for taking the time to read some about some idiots past!!!!!

135 on an 84 GPz 750.  I had the '02 NightHawk up to 125 and the ST1100 up to 110, but I slowed because I ran out of entry ramp.  All were the speeds indicated by the speedo.

130 for me. It was on a 2002 VMax. All that bike is designed to do is go fast in a straight line.

Had a snowmobile up to 135, and an ATV up to 90. ATV was by far the scariest. One time deals, I don't make it a point to drive that fast on a regular basis. Though the Nighthawk has been in triple digits.

The nighthawk is the only bike I have ever really pushed. My max speed so far was 108 by GPS. Then I run out of road and have to slow down.

BB, 483...did you take a flight somewhere and leave the GPS on? I usually do this when flying. Leave the GPS on so I can see where we are and how fast we are going and when we are going to land. Max speed 530+, I forget the exact number.

I don't ride in cattle cars though I will likely have to make an exception for EU and India at some point. The fastest I've ever flown was right at 500 kts kind of, um, upside down going downhill. GPS was not readily available back then.

A GPS measures speed between two reference points. If the resolution changes or it steps diagonally along it's reference squares or has signal loss and recovery in a different location for a few seconds it can measure time and distance between two points even though it has an invalid data point or time reference. I was in moderate traffic down between tall buildings in a city where the same satellite signal was bouncing off buildings from multiple directions. The trail position markers on the screen were all over the place. I noticed the speed indication decelerating in steps from over 200mph for an instant while I was at maybe 15mph then looked at the max speed window and it showed 483mph.
I had the motorhome supposedly up to around 250mph last summer in wide open flat terrain...It kind of makes you wonder that some people want to disable all navigation systems except GPS because it's supposedly perfect and incapable of error.

Shocked to look down at my speedo and see 70 mph the other day on my way to work. For this nooB that was fast enough. 44 mph on my bicycle! Now that was scary!

160kph (~100mph) on the Nighthawk, 110kph (~68mph) on an ice racer on ice. Both of which never need to be repeated again.

my speedos been out of commission for a lil while, but i hit between 7.5 and 8k on the tach in top gear on my 82 750. it was late afternoon on a two lane that lead out to a reservoir i was camping at, no other car besides the one who was riding my ass at the speed limit, he began to shrink in my mirror pretty quickly. prolly didnt hit 115mph, but it felt pretty fast, doubt ill ever do it again on open roads, but i wouldnt mind getting into sanctioned racing at some point.

i got pulled over on the old bicycle for doing  46 in a 35 zone, no ticket just a warning that i was subject to the same rules that apply to the other vehicles on the road

Well, my '83 650 is the fastest bike I've ridden.
I took it up to 105 mph and it developed a slight but significant wobble. I don't take it over 95 ever since.

Mums the word if any forum members have ever attained a terminal speed that surpasses the legal limit.  Also in that vein, I myself have corrected my past woes, and shant ever fracture a velocity limit on any public motorway that has been put in place by the fine upstanding lawmakers of this state and country.   smiler

That wasn't on the oval, that was just playing around. If I could hit that on the oval I'd be very impressed and petrified at the same time.

Only a pilot like Bumblebee could get a 27' motorhome up to 483 MPH! yikes  Did you end up back in the future?
