That pisses me off. 70 in a 55 isn't that fast when your passing a truck. What are we supposed to do stare at the speedometer to make sure we never go over the 'limit'? On a motorcycle you can gain 15mph in a fraction of the time of a car. While passing something dangerous like an 18 wheeler we tend to just go for it keeping an eye on traffic and anything that might be falling off or flying off the truck.  Without trying or even thinking about it we can gain 15mph.

Which is exactly what I was doing; when you're passing a truck, you don't stare down at your instrument cluster. I passed him going over a small rise in the road, pulled back into the right lane, and looked up as the state trooper was climbing into his cruiser. They have a habit here of sitting on the shoulder with their door partially open, sitting with their legs out of the car facing back into oncoming traffic, holding the radar gun like a rifle.

He was a skinny little punk and while I stood there listening to him, I just wanted to knock that ridiculous hat off of his head. Something tells me that would cost more than $150 though.

Clocked the Buell at 100+ just last weekend. Bike was doing just fine, but paranoia got the best of me.....visions of WI State Troopers dancing in my head....hauled it down to a serene 70 in a hurry. Nighthawk up to 80 thus far. Knock on wood!

just over 100 mph on a HD Sportster 1200, and my Nighthawk up to just over 80. I would take the NH faster on a safe track or very quiet interstate, but I don't need a ticket right now.

If you were passing a 2 lane road you are allowed to exceed the limit by 15 mph in our state.  If you were in an extra passing lane you are toast.  I see troopers all the time at the end of passing lanes.  It is easy pickings for them rather than a safety issue.

This nonsense is what radar detectors are for.  Don't leave home with out it.

~95 on the highway. I'd go faster if there was a wide open area where I could tell no fuzz was hiding. That's what I'm really scared of. Got a $150 ticket for going 70 in a 55 while passing an 18 wheeler commuting to work very mad. Hey! I have an idea! How about we use our little blue bullies to catch criminals, rather than staking out people who still, luckily, have a job in this economy?  eek7

Let's face it.... Some cops are fricken morons that just don't get it or they just don't care 'cause they're bungholes...

I don't see why cages cruise next to trucks or pass trucks real slow let alone motorcycles.  It's not safe being next to a big truck no matter what vehicle you're in!  A lot of truck drivers are all hopped up on speed and been awake for days!  The quicker you pass the safer for all on the road!  

I must give props to the Virginia Beach PD though.  I was passing a line of cars in a 35 doing 55 on my way home from MD.  He gave me a warning.  Of course his sergeant stripes clued me in that he was of a higher caliber of police officer.  Maybe the fact that I have buzzed hair, a vest with an American flag and a Don't Tread on Me flag, and am missing a hand made him think I was military so he cut me a break....  who knows... but thank you officer!

Yep, my right is missing.  No modifications on the bike either.  Sometimes at stop lights I get looks of dumbfoundedness.  My whole life's purpose is to shatter everyone's assumption that you need two hands for certain things.  Most people consider it a handicap.  I turn it around on them when they say handicap and tell them that they're the handicapped one because they need two hands to do something I only need one for.  Hahahahaha.  I refuse to drive automatics.  I'll kick anyone's tail on any video game, out shoot anyone on the target range, and play circles around anyone on 3 musical instruments.  Check out my blues band.  I'm the guitar player...

Had an '82 750 Virago - way back in the day, I hooked up with a buddy that had an old 750 Triumph twin.  The two bikes performed exactly the same.  We ran each other about 10 times - dead heat each time.

The virago ran pretty good, but not like my 700s.  The hit at about 7K on my 700s is absolutely addicting.

I got to agree with these two statements.

But this one just shows me that people believe what the media and movies tell them. With all the government control its just about impossible to be a truck driver and be on any drugs or running illegal for very long. I have been driving for 20 yrs and when I first started the percentage was low but they/we were out there. I would say maybe 10%-20% running illegal and probably less than 5% on speed or nodoze type stuff. But with todays industry its just not so. I bet its lower than 2% due to federal regulation and self regulation by the industry. The bottom line is its just not cost effective anymore. With the high insurance cost, large fines and penalties no company runs like that anymore.

HP, yup mine was a 82 750 virago. loved that bike. was my first bike when i was 16, after working out the kinks in it, all i all it served me well, defently would buy 1 again if i seen 1 and had the money. but once i get my nighthawk together and ride next spring, i might change my tune lol

wound up my 85 cb450 to the 105 on the speedo but then it went on so i dunno haw fast. did this after i got my carbs cleaned real good. didn't know it could run so well but now i do :)

This could only be one of three things. Your speedo was way off, you were smoking something, or you had a dream about it.  Hap1

Seriously, I highly doubt that bike would go that fast without some MAJOR engine work.

Hit 140 on my Bandit 1200.  She had lots left to give, I on the other hand was at my limits.  I remember how fast it slowed due to drag when I shut the throttle.
