After 2 pop up campers, Steph decided she wanted a bathroom and I decided I wanted a little quicker set up time. This is what we settled on. It's a 2002 Palomino Stampede S-17 hybrid travel trailer.  |

It's what they call a hybrid travel trailer since it has tip out bunks with tenting and they market it as inbetween a pop up and a full on hard side travel trailer. I like still sleeping under the canvas and the beds not taking up floor space means I can tow a smaller trailer and not have to put down a table or pull out a couch when I want to go to bed. In all honesty though I do still miss my pop up camper.  |

Here we are with our Forrest River Work and Play at Tumbling Waters Campground during the 2010 Nighthawk Rally at Deal's Gap. The nice thing about our toy hauler is that it has a built in deck. The nice thing about Tumbling Waters is that it has a built in creek, which you can overlook from the deck.

Here's my "other" 1985 vehicle.  1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia. 85 HP of unmitagated fury!!! Seriously underpowered, but an absolute blast to drive and camp in.  Two full size beds, sink, fridge, stove, awning, furnace, and it fits into a regular sized parking space. gets about 17 mpg. Sitting in the garage is this:  It is a brand new, zero miles crate engine from Ford. A 2L ZETEC four cylinder that is rated at about 140HP. There is a company that makes the conversion kit to replace the anemic VW flat-four with the ZETEC, and I plan to undertake the transplant later this year. |

There are several mid to heavy duty motorcycle hitch mounts that can fit between the tow vehicle and the trailer. (If you do that though, get a good double class 3 attachment carriers, not one of those single point contraptions that crack the welds) |

Right now we're towing it with a Kia Sorento which is barely keeping up with it's assigned tow vehicle duties. Steph wants an Avalanche, Silverado or Sierra quad cab next spring though so we can go back to the mountains. The Sorento is maxed out at 3500 lbs.

That model is called a Drafty-Breezy. They're all over the place in West TX and northern AZ. It's also why you don't pull one with your motorcycle. Crappy mileage and not enough stoppy power. |
