thanks ! Yea ...the stock tank looked good but it just looked too modern looking for the bike. Goin for that old school look ! Did a little body work on the sportster tank tonight...had a few little dings in it. Tomorow hope to get it painted.

I think I like that. Will it get a clearcoat? Will you explain the method used to create it?
I bet it gets dipped like an Easter egg...with the strings of color floating on top of water.

This is a sweet looking project. Is it completely street legal, or more of a show bike? I think in my area a hardtail is illegal (boring laws), but it makes for a nice looking bike. Is the metal work (welding and shaping the tank) very hard to learn?

Im not sure yet on the clearcoat...i like the matte finish but would like to protect it too so we'll see. You can get that paint effect pretty easily. I put down a basecoat then taped it all off and sprayed the copper color on. Then you just lay saran wrap over the wet paint...let it settle and carefully peel it off and it take some of the color with it. I usually blow on it to push it into the paint a little...and thats it !

Very cool indeed. Hope no gas splashes ruin such creative artistry. Most automotive clearcoats are resistant.

Bike looks nice - personally, I think the matte finish compliments the bobber style. Wonder if anyone makes a matte protective paint coating?

Thanks ! Yes...there is a flattening agent you can add to the clear that will give it a matte type finish. Thats more than likely what I will do.

You were right. The Sportster tank does look better on it. Yes, you can get a matte or satin clear for it. When I painted my Sporty, I layed down a black base and covered it in a satin clear. Very cool build, Bully!!!

I love the paint. How loud are the chopped pipes? I have been considering doing the same. I have been forced to change lanes too many times during my daily commutes. It is about time the cage drivers with cell phones permanently attached to there heads hear me comming.

Yup I cleared the tank with a satin finish. The bike is DONE ! lol I had a blast with this thing and dreaming up ideas then gettin to work on makin them come together. This is the first bike a have built and hopefully wont be the last.I have been out on it a few times and I always get some looks or questions about it. People seem to really dig the hand hammered copper rear fender i made for it and the copper footpegs. Things I made from scratch were the rear struts, bar risers, kick stand, sisssy bar, rear fender. The only things I bought were the tank, seat, bullet signal lights, air filters, exhaust wrap and some steel. All said and done I have about $600 bucks in this (that includes the price of the bike) and I figure about 50-60 hrs. of my labor. I posted some new pics of the bike all done. PS It actually rides nice and handles pretty well suprisingliy.
