Hangster how big is your head? I have two helmets that are to big for me that have never been dropped. You can have one if you promise to stay off the ice. There are always conditions, aren't there?  Hap1

You're replacing the helmet, right?  Maybe I'm just paranoid, but if it has scratches it hit the pavement.

When I went down, I inspected my helmet pretty carefully to see if it was scratched up or dinged - mine never contacted the pavement, luckily.

I checked the helmet a little closer today and it's in real good shape (just scrape marks not impact ones)

Thanks Burgi for the offer but i'll keep this helmet

Today was real bad Fishmeister , when i woke up it felt like someone shoved a baseball bat through me but made it through the day and there is no bruising or anything (this is a good sign)

That really sucks Hangster, but I'm glad you are ok and the bike seems to have very minor "adventure" marks.

I have been commuting on my hawk everyday for the past 7 months, and the last time I had to use public transportation was in June or July.
DC area got hit with a ton of snow, and there is so much ice on the roads now. I was really tempted to ride tomorrow or Wednesday, but after reading your post I might wait a bit longer.
Thanks for sharing!

Not going to have it checked out? You must have caught your bars during your flight. Last time I went down I pulled my underlying leg up on the seat, hung on tight and rode her out. Lotta sparks and spinning, but no flipping occurred. ( I was prepared to be launched at any time, but never happened) I was only scuffed up and not beat up.

Not this bike, long ago on a 76' 750 super sport. I hated that lead sled anyway.

It took a lot of discipline to purposely lay her down and stay with it rather than crashing head on and going into flight at best. Hope my reactions are still as good now.

Nah The helmet is fine .....i don't think i hit the bars , i fell backwards impacting with the right sholder blade and i remember being separated from the bike after that i'm not sure till i came to a stop but tumbled a little.

You sure you don't have broken/bruised ribs?  I've broken a lot of body parts, but none hurt worse, or healed slower, than the rib cage.  No bruising doesn't mean it's a good sign... you think about heading to a doctor?  Stubbornness makes for slow healing. :)

Unfortunately at the moment where i work we are in the process of switching insurance companies so i'm sort of not covered for a while , i'll see how it goes till then (that's why i convinced the guys who helped me out not to call an ambulance ) ..

..colder than freezing if you ask me is out of the question.

Don't forget that ice doesn't magically vanish when it hits 33F. 40F is probably more dangerous than 20F since ice is under friction reducing water layers even in the sun. Any shaded areas are high risk areas.

It's been in the 50's for days now (the high today was 60F) and there is some serious slicker than snot ice between where I'm parked and the main road which as of this afternoon still has a few ice slick spots on it in the curves.

Hangster,
I'm glad you and your bike are still in one piece.  Almost had a run in of my own returning from work today  yikes, but was EXTRA cautious after reading your thread last night. mol
I hope you get to feeling better.
Best regards,
Eric

You should try it sometime
Actually, I did drop my last bike in a parking lot due to some sort of cold weather slipperiness (something like seven years ago when I was doing the Polar Bear rides.  Some bigger biker guy came over and lifted it for me like the little girl that I was  shog
On the way home, I remember slurring my speech and being somewhat disoriented at a fuel stop.  Hypothermia will impair judgment, reaction time, motor skills just the same as booze, and it sneaks up on you slowly.  Gotta know your limits.

Would current weather conditions in the east qualify as a no ride zone?

My parking lot is a bumpy skating rink, but the real roads are pretty dry and clear.  However there's that occasional sand/salt pile or smattering of ice/snow/slush that warrants my 'no exploring below freezing' imposition.
My routine for years after winter precipitation is to drive a route both ways before riding to minimize, hopefully eliminate, surprises.

Hangster,

You probably do have some rib damage but there is nothing a DR. would do for that anyway(except a scrip for pain med).  Sound like Dr. Hangster already prescribed Cap. Morgan. Hang in there.
