19?? Enfield 500 Bullet - One of the secretaries at the university was clearing out a shed and wanted to get rid of this bike for free, because her husband had trouble with the kick start. Thinking that it was a "box job" I told her that I would take it off her hands and try to find a good home for it. The bike looked like it hadn't been touched! It had 341 miles on it when I took possession. This actual bike was featured in several biker mags (not good reviews by the way) and she gave me those magazines with the bike. I later gave the bike to my uncle who is a British bike nut who even likes working on the Lucas electrical crap. He also has a Norton Commander and several 1970s era Triumphs. His everyday rider is a 20?? V-Rod Black Cherry.

When compared to my 1995 CB750 NH, this thing is like riding a 2X4 with rollerskates screwed onto the bottom.

Nice bike. They are nice to look at but painful to ride.

My neighbor is a bike dealer and he recently got a dealer license for Royal Enfield.  The new ones are fuel injected, but otherwise unchanged from what I can tell, including the horrible wiring harness.  He is selling them as fast as he can get them, and already having electrical warranty repairs.

I wouldn't pay much for one (and they don't cost much new) but I'd take one for free too.  And I'd probably give it away after a while too.
Fun for recreating how olde timey bikes rode, but not so fun when surrounded by vehicles of modern capabilities.  Every ride is both an adventure and  sleep

Sweet deal! Like Happy said, I'd take one for free. Honesty i looked at buying a used one a while back.

Now that is sweet. And yes it suffers from many many decades old technology. But it'll turn more heads than a newer machine. Looks to be in incredible shape.

Enfield puts out a t-shirt that reads "Unencumbered by Technology" They certainly have a niche, but I value my hind end too much.

One of the articles I have about this bike said, "It was considerable effort getting into 2nd gear, and realized it wasn't worth it."

I forgot to mention this, but top speed was around 85 MPH and it got 80+ MPG. Most of the nuts and bolts could be picked up at a local hardware store, which is good, because they tend to rattle loose. It always started, ran and sipped gas.

From what I have been able to gather from an article in Cycle World and
Motorcycle Classic magazines the Enfields have improved greatly the last
couple of years. However, I do not have personal expierence with this bike
but think about this, up until Honda released their CB 750 in 1969 a 500cc
motorcycle was considered a large motorcycle, boy have things changed
since then.

In some countries a 250 is the largest legal street bike. I had a Hyo GT250 that was considered the "Monster of the Indian Roads"

That is a good looking bike.

Thanks for my first laugh of the day with this quote,

True.  I read some article stating that an Enfield in India was seen as the equivalent of a Boss Hoss here: unbelievably large, expensive, fast.
