I headed out today around noon to meet my good friend Jim (on his trusty KLR 650) in Ramona at Packard's Coffee Shop.

We headed up Highway 67 to Santa Ysabel where we stopped so I could get the family favorites at Dudley's (Potato and San Diego Sourdough bread as well as Dudley Bars).

We then headed down Highway 79 to the Mesa Grande turnoff which winds you around to Highway 76.

From there we went up East Grade Road towards Palomar Mountain to the overlook to check things over.

Here are a few shots of the iron steeds:

And some shots of the Lake Henshaw area:

From there we headed back to the Lake Henshaw Cafe (on Highway 76 just south of the lake) - Jim having a hot chocolate, me a rootbeer in a mason jar - Cute place.

Then I just wound my way back down to Ramona and home to Alpine. A nice 4 hour trip and about 125 miles.

A real nice day - But a bit chilly - In the mid 40's to low 50's - Thank goodness for grip heaters! rayof

Beautiful trip - is the lake is pretty dried up?

Warren - it looks like you have your GPS mounted on your tank bag, or maybe the picture is an illusion to me.  Can you describe your GPS setup?

Nice report.
My ride for yesterday was less than an hour. Jeans and no heat....spent the rest of the day getting warmed back up.  happy1
I still haven't made it to Palomar.

That's a pretty normal level for Lake Henshaw. Much higher and it would hit Highway 76.

I have a Ram mount on the left handlebar - And I use an inexpensive refurbished Garmin 250. It's not motorcycle specific, and not weatherproof, so I use a small Glad bag over it in the bad weather and it does fine.

So far it's held up to about 5000 miles of vibration between the Nighthawk and my KLR 650. So at about $100 refurbished (eBay) it's hard not to go for it when the motorcycle specific GPS systems are pretty expensive.

Here's a shot that shows it a little better:
