Well here is a couple pics of the newest addition to my family

She is a 85 700S, with 52600 on the clock, the motor is apart due to a loss of compression. The PO discovered this to be from a set of "stuck" rings. Since then he had cleaned the piston lands and the pistons(they look brand new), Honed the Cylinders, and has taken very very good care of all the internal engine parts, everything is packaged in Ziplocs with oil in them.

I will be needing a seat cover and most likely new foam. I might need a new tank if I cant pop the dent out. other then that everything is there.

My big plans for it are a mix of a custom/CAFE look. I will be Painting the frame Gray, and all the plastics and fairings Black with Gray Tribal Flames on them. Im going to shave the rear turn signals and replace them with a shorter stem or relocate them somewhere else. The Front end will be lowered a bit, and Clubman bars are going on. I havent quite decided if i want to polish the rims yet or not thought  scratcher

I will have plenty more pictures coming as i begin work ASAP

So last night work progressed, i have most of the rear of the bike reassembled(i.e The inner fender, the rear fairing etc) Right now im just making sure everything is there and how it all goes back together. Once I finish with that im gonna strip it down to the frame and prep for paint  thumb

So today was a productive day, I got the head reassembled and everything is looking good :) right now all I need is piston rings and a gasket set. Then the motor is all good :D. So until I save up some money to get those I'm gonna diassemble the rest of the bike and and start painting.I took some pictures tonight, and ill be posting them up here when I get home tonight.

Here are a few pictures from my productive day today  muhaha

I reassembled the head as you can see. I also went through and cleaned EVERYTHING that was going back in to make sure it was good to go back in. I went and set the cylinders on the block for now just to have em out of the way.

I noticed that on the side of the head where the valve cover comes down to meet the head there is a half moon shaped hole that looks like its missing something.

Tomorrow im gonna bring home the valve cover to polish her up real pretty like, and i am also going to bring home a couple of the fairings and the rear plastic to start prepping them for paint  naughty naughty

Nothing missing, the valve cover gasket will fill that up.

You'll just have to disassemble the heads again to put them on the engine. Cams have to go in after the head is installed. I also don't see the cam chain in your pics. Normally when the head and cylinders are removed, you tie that up to the frame or something so that it does not fall down into the case. Hopefully when yours was disassemled something similiar was done. Could be trouble if not.

If it's dropped down in the case and either you can't get it fished back out or it's dropped off the teeth on the crank and you can't get it seated back on them, you might have to split the cases to get it back. With the cylinders off, you should be able to fish it back out fairly easily, I think.

There are little rubber pucks that fill the half-moon shape.

Not being critical, but without a picture, grey sounds, well, grey.  If I was painting my bike today in a non-stock color, I would choose a black frame and this 2008 Hayabusa color:

http://suzukicycles.com/Product%20Lines/Cycles/Products/Hayabusa/2008/GSX1300R.aspx

Saw one of these at the track recently - it is absolutely beautiful.

O like Th obsidian one  thumb If i was to do gray it would be Gray with some Flake or pearl or some sort of effect in it. My buddy's truck has two different grays on it and they both look bad ass.

HP: I doo like that color, but ive never really liked owning something that bright, im more in to the subtleness

All of those look interesting, a paint swatch, let alone a digital one, is difficult to judge on.  Have you browsed:

www.bikepics.com

There are 1000s of bikes there, every make and model, and many have custom paint jobs.  You can email the owners and find out what color they picked.

Looking forward to reading about your project.

HP: thanks for the link ill check it out when I get off work tonight.

I was originally thinking of going with a subtle and more subdued scheme but after seeing that hayabusa in orange I'm thinking a bright one off job is in order :)
