Paid 400 for it, has clean title, it ran, I wanted a 750 but I felt for 400 it was not a bad deal. I think it needs the carbs rebuilt, front tires, battery, Possible a clutch but I think if I drive it easy it will last. The tachometer has a mind of its own. A float was stuck in one of the carbs, once I fixed that it actually runs right but still is funky. It actually will idle now. it has 15,000 miles on it, I took the valve cover off and its super clean. I have a 80s CX650 that im working on also.

Thanks, some one took care of it other than it sitting for the last year, even the carbs are pretty clean inside, im sure the old gas from sitting has gummed up little passages and floats and all that. but it has no rust what so ever and everything works on it.

Congrats! Great bike at a great price. Start her on a steady diet of about half cup of Seafoam in every tank till she purrs. You might not need to pull and soak the carbs if you do that. Also change the plugs, oil and oil filter... cheap improvements in performance.

Nice looking bike, Charlie. I see the custom exhaust on it, too. Sounds like you got one heck of a good deal for a fully functional bike for only $400.00. Great job!

I see the custom exhaust on it, too. Never seen a header on a NH450 before. Neat. Welcome to the group - under $1.00 per Cc is a steal no matter what.

Welcome to the forum. Looks like you got a MAC 2-1 exhaust. That system runs a about $260 so four hundred for your bike is a deal.

Nice looking bike, and to the forums. My first bike was a 1979 Honda CM400T, awesome little machine, commuted on it to work during college, and would visit my girlfriend (now wife) in Kansas City every other weekend (50 mile ride one way, all highway). I had a lot of fun on that old bike, and it was dead reliable, i really loved the way it sounded once it'd been at higher RPM's for a while on the highway, after you'd take it off and onto the back streets again, you could just tell that she'd blown out all the carbon, and was running clean and true. Good luck with your machine, hope it provides you with years of good service. You have the six speed with that one right? And i know the 450 made 10 or 15 more HP than the 400 did, which has to be pretty nice when you're roaming around.

Nice find! Is it possible that some of your troubles could be from the carbs not being jetted to match the MAC exhaust?

Yeah the bike is running better every day I run it, Im not going to mess with the carbs unless they dont improve, they are clean I think just the small passages are clogged by old gas or something, I did just notice that the 450nighthawks come with dual exhaust and mine is a 2 into 1., Mine is pretty loud I thought compared to my friends 97 zx6e and his is a 600, I love how it sounds, I dont think im going to sell it to get a 450, it has enough power for me. Ill do the seafoam thing, I read that on this forum all ready.
Mine is 6spd and someone said that the 2nd gear poping into neutral could be a bent clutch fork. But I shift to 3rd so its not a problem, only does it maybe one out of 10 times of shifting into 2nd.
I think it may need a clutch down the road though, im fairly mechanically inclined though. Does anyone know where a step by step guide is for doing that?
Also another question, Im so new to bikes, When checking the oil should the bike be strait up, or leaning on the kickstand?

Your best bet is to buy a good service manual when replacing the clutch. When checking the oil, the bike should be straight up. Leaning on the sidestand will not give you an accurate reading of how much oil you have in the engine.
